Dearl all,
Today we will be exploring the nature of the Centre, the nature of the Neutrality.
We often times imagine the Centre, the Neutrality as something immobile and passive. A state where we let things happen without taking any action. But this is not at all the nature of the Centre. In the seeming immobility, there is a perfect balance of two opposing forces, of the push and pull. And we reach it by being cleverly attuned to which force is lacking to take a corresponding action.
Physical postures, such as yoga asanas allow us to taste this concept with our bodies and to experiment how these opposing forces feel. If we pay attention, the physical postures show us how we can stay in the equilibrium with our deep muscles pushing and pulling in opposing directions. It is on us to notice, to observe, to see how merging polarities occurs during yoga practice. To have enough awareness to sense the direction we need to go. To feel the dance of going out and coming in. To feel the force that is employed to hold everything together.
It is not a passive process. Neutrality, the Centre is not a passive place where nothing happens. It is a place of deep awareness where the attunement is such, that we sense what action is needed to stay there. If no action is needed, we rest there.
Feel that the push and pull are one. From the same source, in one fluid dance.
More resistance you put, less fluid the natural dance will be.
If allowed, all will return to the equilibrium, the body, the mind, feelings. Only if allowed.
But now you understand that it doesn’t mean that no action are necessary to be there. And you also understand that actions are also required to stay there.
Being in balance is only a seemingly static state. It does not mean that once you find what works for you all efforts are done and your learning is over. What if the balance, as everything else in the Universe is continuously moving and is to be continuously readapted according to new conditions?
What if this whole time we were looking at the Centre as some static state to reach, if in fact it is meant to be evolving?
Can we dance the dance of constant change?
Can we find the still spot in the constant change?
Can we grasp that at the same time there is only this present moment, but that this still moment is constantly changing?
How to know what to push or pull?
As we said, there are two oppositional forces holding the material Universe together, the pulling closer and the pushing away. We usually pull things closer that we Love and prefer and we push away through hate and resistance things we consider as bad or unwanted.
There comes the trick. What if some of the things you choose to push away because of judgment you actually need? And conversely, what if you are pulling in things that are not beneficial, but serve you in some unconscious ways?
Make it your practice to observe very carefully the motivation you have when pushing or pulling things. Do you do it because someone told you? Because you read it somewhere? Did you take the time to check with your body how does it feel about it?
Following anything else than our intelligence makes it much harder to stay in the Centre, we are much more likely to take an action that will even further deviate us from it.
So honour your Centre, respect it.
Feel how uncomfortable it is to be outside of equilibrium.
With all we said in mind, we understand now that both push and pull or creation and destruction are necessary to keep everything together. To keep all material things that seem immobile, in cohesion. Can we now use this knowledge to remove any judgment we have about things, places or people? To understand that all polarities have their purpose and should be seen in a neutral way? So once again, follow your motivation behind pushing and pulling. Do you push it away because you consider it bad? What if it just was? What if it was unwanted for you and necessary for someone else? Can you start to see the world and things as “it is”, not “it is good ” or “it is bad”? See it as “I want this” and “I do not want this” without adding the drama, the shame and judgments?
Your passion will point you to the equilibrium
If you find thoughts preventing you from following your passion, dismantle it. Do not make a bigger deal about it than it is.
Dissociate the emotion you feel from the situation itself, in order to see it objectively. Use your thoughts and emotions, feel and listen, but do not intermingle them too much or you will lose sight. Otherwise, you will believe false beliefs made by pain and hurt.
Consider an example where someone hurt you, by telling you you were no good. Your ego was hurt, you felt the pain of these words and so you feel like it must be true, why it would otherwise hurt? No.
1. The other person said something.
2. And it hurt.
These are two separate aspects to deal with.
It hurt your ego because it was attacked by saying you were no good and it got scared because not accepted in the group anymore.
But by looking with your mind, is it true?
Can you tend to your ego as a gentle mother while tending to your thoughts as a rational father?
Can you see your thoughts and emotions as suggestions? As helpers?
Not as something to dismiss? To be mad about?…“Why do I have to think about this again?”…”Why do I feel like this again?”….”I thought I already resolved this.”….
Powerlesness
What if there was no particular reason? What if you let it pass?
What if there was an important reason? Something to understand?
What if you were intelligent and sensitive enough to know which one to do?
What will you choose?
What if you were bigger than your fears? Better than your thoughts? Able to live a decent life despite all that happened to you or others told you.
What if you already had the capacity to stay in the Centre since the day you were born? What if you could choose to stay in there from now on, forever?
What if the only way to be there is to choose it?
To push some things away and to pull some things in? Not from a place of hate and judgment, but just because that is what is needed?
What if you already knew exactly what these things were? Things, thoughts or people?
To reshuffle your cards differently?
To look the storm in the eye and see it for what it is. A cleanup. A help. A reshuffle.
Instead of crying for seemingly losing everything you had in the cyclone, seeing all your things circling in the fast wind around you, what if you waited instead to see how the cards will redistribute? What if it is actually a new perspective coming your way? What if what is on the other side is infinitely better than what was before?
What if even though it looked tidied up it was not in equilibrium?
What if it looks like a complete mess, it is in a better equilibrium?
What if how the form looks like does not directly translate its internal equilibrium/state?
What if all nice, put in place, a seemingly perfect life can be far away from its Centre?
If you knew this, would you despise the storm or welcome it? Would you open your door to it, open your arms and welcome it, if you knew that much better things are on the other side of it?
Can you unlearn what others told you about the storm? About what to fear? About what to take in or out?
Can you unlearn it so as to push and pull what you are meant to push and pull?
What would you do differently? How would you choose to spend your time?
To not pull in other people’s suggestions that make you deviate even further from the Centre?
The answer is always in the present moment
In the present moment, in the calm and stillness you can see clearly, you can separate elements, information from your body, emotions and thoughts to see them clearly, to not mix everything into one gigantic mess filled with panic and fear.
Panic and fear are indicating you that you are trying to overcomplicate things, to shuffle elements that are not to be considered simultaneously.
To slow it down, to simplify it, to split it into elements so as to better observe it.
All kinds of truths can be found this way. All Truth can be found this way.
You do not need to look for who you are, you already are. Look for what you are not, through the dance of push and pull.
You do not look for the Centre.
The Centre is the byproduct of push and pull.
Do not let anyone to tell you how your Centre should like look. No one barely knows their own. Do not get trapped in the form.
Do your dance and allow everyone to do their dance at the same time.
Allowing them their dance is the best help you can give them. Allow them to dance and they will allow you to dance, to move, to be, to constantly change.
Thank you.
